the knots.

It is often said that yoga unties the knots that bind us.

We breath into places that have been closed off in order to open the doorway to a more fluid way of being in our bodies.

We bend forward and backwards, we twist and turn and go to each side and back, we go upside down and right side up, and we bind and unbind our hands, arms and legs.

All of this movement unwinds the knots our thoughts often tie us in.

We start untying our muscles, tissues, ligaments and tendons and then slowly, practice by practice, we untie our thoughts. The untying and unwinding feels good.

When I lie down in savasana after a practice, I often feel expansive. Like somehow I am spread out bigger than I was - like butter on warm bread. And I feel and spacious. I feel like what was impossible one hour ago is now something I can manage. I feel like I am floating as a piece of the atmosphere. And a lightness comes over me that feels like an angel of sorts has scooped me up on her wings.

I am aware of my blood circulating and my energy vibrating as if the garden hose of my channels and blood vessels has been unkinked. Fluid. Have you felt that? If so, I believe this is what it means to say the yoga unties the knots that bind us.
