Believe in CLE Partners with Laura’s Home

Our annual Believe in CLE event partners with charitable organizations to raise awareness and support critical community missions.

This year, Believe in CLE is proud to support Laura’s Home Women’s Crisis Center, a part of The City Mission in Cleveland.

According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the two-bedroom wage in Cleveland is now $21.31. A mother would need to work 82 hours/week at minimum wage ($10.45) to afford a two-bedroom at fair market rent in greater Cleveland. Laura’s Home provides a bridge from crisis to stability and self-sufficiency for women and children. However, The City Mission relies on donors to continue this crisis center’s care, with 84 cents of every dollar going directly to resident programming.

    • New Towels

    • Baby Wipes

    • Baby Lotion

  • If you are unable to bring physical items to the event, you can purchase and send items from  Laura’s Home Amazon Wish List.

Help provided by Laura’s Home by the numbers:

  • Today Laura's Home is serving 27 single women, 31 mothers, and 68 children. The Home has been at capacity for nearly a decade, with 77 women and children turned away each day.

  • In the month of June alone, we served 6,680 meals at Laura's Home. 4,301 of those were just for the children living in our care.

  • $2.88 will provide a meal for a resident in crisis.

  • Currently, more than 50% of our residents have experienced domestic violence.

  • During the summer months our funding drops to the lowest levels, and the need for serving more children who are out of school for the summer increases. We provide summer programming, field trips, and off-site activities for our children

  • The average age of someone experiencing homelessness is 11 years old, and the Pathways program at Laura’s Home seeks to offer trauma-informed care to every child.

Laura’s Home new building initiative:

We are building one of Cleveland's first transitional housing for mothers and children. Set to be completed in December, four new units will safely house 16 mothers and their children. Each family will remain on campus, giving children stability of remaining in the same school and receiving supportive care on campus, while mothers have the gift of time to build their income.

Women and their children are able to come here and feel safe, while receiving compassionate care. We receive calls from mothers staying in cars with their children because they simply have nowhere else to go. The goal isn’t just to provide somewhere safe to rest with meals, but to provide access to vital resources to help end the generational cycle of poverty for women and their children
