the foundation.

No matter what, yoga will always be there for us.

No matter how busy, tight, old, exhausted or stressed we are, yoga will always show up for us and meet us where we are.

Yoga as a practice can be modified, embellished, shortened and lengthened. We can do 5 minutes or 65 minutes and we can practice one pose or many but the benefits will always be undeniable. As long as we are willing to breathe deeply and move thoughtfully, the yoga will hold us and heal us. The yoga will always be our foundation to return to over and over.

During the 25 years I have been practicing yoga - breathing and moving on the mat, I have also been a walker, a runner, a swimmer and a cyclist. I have ran half marathons, lifted weights and climbed some mountains. But no matter what ways I choose to be in my body, coming back to my yoga practice over and over has helped me stay energized, supple, strong and most importantly, in tune with my bodily sensations. My yoga practice always provides me with an invitation to listen to my body.

Yoga is the thing, if we keep up with it, that allows us to do all of the other things!

For me, I get on my mat (really any mat - I am not particular) and it feels like I have entered sacred space. And that feeling on the mat is like a call to turn inward and feel how I am feeling, listen to my body and its' whispers. Even if I practice for 5 minutes, I remember who I am, I return to myself. On my mat I remember that I am more than my roles and responsibilities, I remember I am not my worries and fears, I remember that I am not my past and my mistakes, I remember I am made of courage and grace, badassery and grit. That mat reminds me of all II have lived through, all I have overcome and most importantly, where I am headed. All of that in a few breaths, some sun salutations and a child’s pose.

Practicing regularly (5 minutes or 65 minutes), can change not only the way we relate to our bodies, but how we relate to the world around us. A regular practice can create more patience in our relationships and more resilience in our work. A regular practice can even move us to feel our own power and access our deep sources of strength.

The Experience is beginning this coming Monday, October 14 and it is the perfect 10 day reset to recommit to your yoga practice or deepen your current practice. Offered in a friendly and accessible way, The Experience is not a weight loss initiative, but you will feel lighter both in mind and body by the end of the 10 days and your yoga practice will be reinvigorated!

Big love,
Tammy
